Emily Murray

Musical Director

A native of Stanley, with a background in local music festivals, brass bands and county youth ensembles, Emily joined the Band of the Welsh Guards at eighteen, performing as leader of their string orchestra, a cornet player and a pianist. After an exciting and varied career, which included professional accompanying, solo piano performances and chamber recitals in the Central London area, Emily moved back to the North East in 2011 and, following a PGCE at Durham University, took up the post of Assistant Director of Music at Durham School. Taking on additional roles at Sage, Gateshead, including Singing Foundation Project Leader and YMP Music Language Study Leader, has enabled Emily to continue to develop her passion for music education at all levels. Emily became Musical Director of Low Fell Singers in September 2017 and has loved working with such a friendly, talented and enthusiastic group of singers.

Erin Anderson

Assistant Musical Director

Erin Anderson started off at a young age playing the cello and double bass and quickly found her love of playing as part of an orchestra. After finishing school, she moved up to bonnie Scotland to study music performance at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama on her principal study the double bass.

Erin has travelled all over the world playing as part of orchestras, but it was working back in the North East as the conductor of St. Pauls Youth Ensemble that inspired her to a change the direction of her career into what it is today. Working as a secondary school Music teacher in
Gateshead where she grew up herself.

Over the last 18 years, while Erin has been back in the North East, she has been involved in organising a variety of productions, events and concerts for secondary school children. She has especially enjoyed accompanying young musicians from around the North East and her day job as the Director of Arts and Culture at a large secondary school in Gateshead.

Erin was the Assistant Director of the Heworth Grange Ladies Community Choir and in 2018 took on the role of Assistant Musical Director of the Low Fell Singers. She has enjoyed supporting the choir to embrace new technologies, such as Zoom, to continue with their love of singing through the pandemic and knows that the ladies determination and resilience means they are ever growing as a choir.
