About Us

Current membership of the Choir stands at around 30 members who come from a wide local area, including Gateshead, Birtley, Newcastle and Durham. We perform a number of concerts and other events throughout the year helping to raise hundreds of pounds for local and national charities.

As an active member of the National Association of Choirs, the Choir participates in all the Events organised by the North-East Group of the Association.

As a friendly group of 'non professional' like-minded singers we consider ourselves approachable should you decide to apply for membership.

Our History

Our choir was formed in 1941 as the Low Fell Ladies Choir and changed its name to the Low Fell Singers in 2000. Over the years the choir has won prizes at many major music festivals throughout the country and has brought many now nationally and internationally known singers to the North East as its guest artists at its Annual Concerts.

In the past few years the choir has broadened its horizons, giving concerts in Harrogate, Chester, St Andrews and Bourne in Lincolnshire. The Choir has also taken part in four Festivals of Brass and Voices at the Royal Albert Hall in London in aid of Cancer Research UK including the last in November.

The Choir is an active member of the Gateshead Arts Association and the National Association of Choirs, North East and has taken part in a number of Choral Spectaculars at The Sage, Gateshead.

In September 2017 the Choir were delighted to welcome Emily Murray, to be their new Musical Director, only the third in the choir’s history!
